Human prolactin (PRL: lactogenic hormone) is secreted by the anterior pituitary gland in both men and women. During pregnancy, the level of PRL gradually increases up to 10 and 20 times the normal value. Determining the concentration of PRL is useful in diagnosing hypothalamic-pituitary disorders.
