ASO is an antibody produced in human blood against streptolysin O made from infection with the bacteria Streptococcus. A high or increasing ASO titre may indicate recent streptococcal infections. Certain autoimmune responses, glomerulonephritis, acute tonsillitis, scarlet fever, and rheumatic fever may be associated with streptococcal infections.
