An anti-CCP test is able to detect autoantibodies against citrullinated proteins which have relatively high sensitivity for rheumatoid arthritis and extremely high specificity (around 90%).

Its high specificity explains why the anti-CCP test has become an important part of the process of diagnosing RA.
